Current County Road Closures

Faulkner County has selected five roads this year to be part of its Surface Preservation Program, now in its second year. The Program is designed to improve and extend the surface life of roadways to avoid heavy construction delays and reduce taxpayer expense. Importantly, major corridor roadways are intentionally selected before they have deteriorated to a point where heavy construction would be required, and the cape seal preservation technique is designed to extend the life of these roadways. The Program also allows minimal disruption to traffic patterns during application.
The Surface Preservation Program requires two phases of construction. Phase I involves the application of emulsified asphalt and aggregate to the road surface to scrub seal the pavement. This Phase is a quick operation, and normal traffic patterns are allowed to resume shortly after application. Motorists on these roads may experience some loose aggregate on the roadway for a few days after this phase. As a result, a reduction in traffic speed is recommended during the initial set time for the aggregate. This loose aggregate will be scheduled for removal from the project site within a few days of the scrub seal application. Once Phase I application has cured, which takes approximately 5-7 days, the work will move into Phase II.
Phase II includes the application of a Micro Surfacing Treatment, which is the final riding surface of the roadway. Micro Surfacing is wet when first applied, and driving in it will result in damage to the material that will require repair. However, little overall traffic disruption is expected as the product dries relatively quickly and can support traffic within a few hours.
We ask for your patience and vigilance during this process. During the application of each phase, roadways will be limited to one lane of traffic in the construction zones. Flaggers and pilot trucks will be present to assist safely controlling the flow of traffic in the construction zones. For citizen safety, we ask that you follow the directions of the construction crew and allow extra travel time for delays, which can range up to 15 minutes. If delays are problematic for you, please consider an alternative route of travel during this time.
The Surface Preservation Program selected roadways, along with the estimated start date of Phase I of their preservation, is provided below. We will update the citizens on the progress of these roadways, and additional notifications will be publicly available once Phase II begins. If you have any additional questions, please contact the Faulkner County Road Department at 501-450-4930. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time as we improve our roadways for the benefit and safety of all Faulkner County residents!
